It was such a humbling experience being invited to write a chapter for the upcoming book Taking Care of You: The Empowered Woman’s Guide to Better Health. I built on my experiences as an emergency physician to discuss important differences between urgent care centers and emergency departments. I also discuss the implications those differences have on receiving the appropriate level of care, especially for women of color and low-income backgrounds.
